EP Review: Cenacle – Immortality Words: Lew Mobey – @itslewmobey

This fantastic fresh 4 piece from St Helens UK are switched on musicians who have a strong musical sound. With a wide range influences such as Linkin Park to Breaking Benjamin, these boys have built up a local fanbase and have released a well produced EP titled Immortality… A particuar favourite track of mine is Beyond Understanding. Starting with a simple piano melody only to be contrasted with have a heavier grungier feel. Then lead vocalist Joe Consiglio enters with his ambient clean vocals high in the mix creating a great contrast of heavy and soft sounds. Then his brother Si Consiglio roars in with a low, heavy riff. (I must mention Si’s playing is phenomenal, his emotion is shown through his playing, he’s not a shredder who thinks the faster you can play the better, he’s just a fantastic guitarist.) The bass guitarist Ben Ryan has some very complex bass lines sliding up to the higher octaves and in the verses of the track, he uses many notes instead of just walking the bass line on the same note for the whole time. Drummer Danny Parr has so much control over his playing, tight fills, fast double bass patterns give the track it’s power. Then a random but fitting acoustic breakdown/middle 8 appears out of nowhere adding a different dynamic on the track, then the chorus re-enters with Joe’s 2 part harmonies on the ‘woahs’. I have played a show with these guys in St Helens with my band, they’re all down to earth, friendly people. Top band, top music, top blokes.
