Household namers, Evol, have done some extra good this bank holiday Monday and decided to give us treat a little sweeter than an Easter Egg…
Sounding like he could be Bruce Springsteen’s nephew with a hint of American doorstep folk, Thomas J Speight covers all necessary points you need from a cool laid back spring gig. Despite it being grey outside right now Speight’s music brings a warmth to the soul and a burst of sunlight to the heart and just generally makes you feel like your riding through Summer American meadows in your dad’s old drop top Cadillac. Well at least that’s what I get from ‘This House’.
There’s a definite Damien Rice tone to some of Thomas J Speight’s songs and a depth that only well crafted songs can bring. His tracks are full of nostalgic feeling love stories that girls die for and guys pretend they don’t long for. My favourite song of his is actually nothing like that though. ‘Start As We Mean’ is a great uplifting track with a good beat with a 50’s-esque chord progression. But like I said, not nostalgic feeling!
Speight’s songs vary with the common denominator being cool, simple, heartfelt emotion. Definitely one to get down to to finish the weekend off on a high note.
