So there it is. It’s been and gone. An incredible night that lived up to and surpassed all expectations!! The GIT Awards! The line up was incredible and the diversity shown on stage in terms of genres, styles and personalities was amazing. It’s great to the city showcased in such a way…
I met the band in Lucy’s sunny flat, where they were also being filmed as part of a Liverpool Music Scene documentary. The self proclaimed Tarantino meets Disney trio filled their little practice room with the sound of a new song, but that’s all I can tell you because it’s still a secret! In the following interview we find out a little about their past and their aspirations for the future. Enjoy!
Last month, a new night opened at the Kazimier – Gold Soundz. It promised to be an alternative club night, playing classic indie, rock and pop from the 80s and 90s. It could be perceived by some as a night run by those on the scene for those in the know, but I was keen to make it down, partly to support friends but also out of curiosity and an interest in seeing something different on the musical landscape. I was early and the venue was pretty empty but it quickly got busy and as time wore on, any scenester fears dissolved. Overall, it felt like one of the most inclusive and welcoming nights of many I’ve been to at the Kazimier…

Gold Soundz - 80’s & 90’s Alternative & Indie disco @ Kazimier
One of the most creative ideas on the scene in a long while, Gold Soundz, is launching tonight at the Kazimier!! Gold Soundz is the latest from cool cat Andrew Ellis, the master behind local promotion big dawgs, Samizdat promotions. As they have been kind enough to bring you the best indie/alternative/post-punk/grunge from the past 30 years, it is only fair that their encouragement of goth themed attire is taken in to consideration when it comes to dolling yourselves up tonight…
Atop the balcony looking down on the ever increasing dancefloor, I could sense the eagerness to hear the alternate rock band Spector play their first gig in the Kazimer, Liverpool. Hearing some positive word of mouths reviews and listening their single ‘Chevy Thunder’, I was a part of the eagerness. I was interested to see what else they could bring to the table. The music being played through the speakers was cut off and the crowd held their breath for a few seconds, waiting to see the perfectly round glasses of lead singer Frederick Macpherson. The place exploded with applause when the entire band came down the steps of the uniquely set up of the venue. Dressed for the occasion, in monochrome black suits with white shirts Spector didn’t take long to show they have a lot to offer the music scene…
I heard about this guy around a month before the gig. I was just going through a few of his videos on YouTube after seeing him on February’s listings and as soon as I heard ‘Higher Love’ seep out my knackered Toshiba laptop speakers I was sold. This was a night I was going to brave the cold to see. The heating was broke in the house anyway but even if the house was burning I would have thrown my gloves on and got down to see mr James Vincent McMorrow warm up the sold out Kazimier crowd. After a brief telling off from Pippa on the door I literally had to push my way through to the bar, it was that packed. The thing about JVM is he really does have an exceptional voice which is echoed by the incredible and all aged turn out. His tracks have a beautiful unique simplicity to them that all these guitar, electro and what have you bands just simply can not possess so a show like this in many ways is a breath of fresh air from the norm…
A new genre of music has been created. It’s called ‘Perfection’. The creators, The War On Drugs, are bringing this ‘Perfection’ to our town of Liverpool via the medium of Harvest Sun and LMW presents at everyone’s favourite Kazimier.
Think of classic rock, think of classic blues, think of them combined together and then think of them sounding like they’re actually from 2012. With comparisons made to Bob Dylan mixed with Bruce Springsteen’s E Street band it’s not hard to understand why these guys are making big waves!…
@ The Kazimier, 4-5 Wolstenholme Square, Liverpool, L1 4JJ
Irish Lo-Fi folk Singer James Vincent McMorrow returns to Liverpool to headline at The Kazimier this February. We must warn you, this show is already well on the way to selling out so bust your ass to get tickets now…
Lazy Genius - “It’s the end of an era… but these things happen”
Interview: Tom Johnson of Lazy Genius
(Everyone’s favourite G. Lazy Genius)
Live music at Mojo. It just sounds right doesn’t it? Well not according to the big boys at the top of the chain. For years Mojo was the place were unsigned bands and artists got to play on the same stage as many big touring artists. Artists such as Miles Kane, Frankie and the Heartstrings and Three Trapped Tigers and only a few months back it was practically the home of the hugely successful Liverpool Music Week! But now Mojo’s decision to scrap live music has left us all (most of us) in tears. Plus, the music scene down on a night that played an important part on the circuit. A night that filled a gap. That night was Club Lazy Genius…
Everisland’s ‘13’ at the Kazimier. Friday the 13th. It’s unlucky for some and so I was running late most of the day due to a Merseyrail power outage, but luckily so were Ever Island’s ‘13’ festivities. I thankfully made it to the Kazimier well in time to catch the opening short films courtesy of the excellent Tea and Two Slice…
I’m sure the news of Mojo’s decision to pull live music has reached you by now but I would just like to go over a few things. This article is about larger venues…
This interview nearly didn’t happen! Here’s what the plan was. Meet up with the EverIsland guys, Sam and Clarry, at Mello Mello. Simples. A sit down with Liverpool’s newest and freshest promoters sounded right up my street and where better to see them than where thier recent jam packed Muto Leo gig took place?
Got there, Mello was shut. It’s a long story so I’ll save you the trauma but it involved a lonely sit down in LEAF, a broken phone, a sachel of sugar and an accidental cross of paths with the EverIsland guys captured on Slater Street by an unassuming Phil Macdonald, our photograpoher. It was a fluke I even found them but as long as they were in sight I could rest easy that night…
City hard hitters, Ninetails have been fingering (in the musical sense) their way up the local food chain of recent to become one of the city’s finest. With spots on good quality line ups and a recent label deal there’s no knowing where these guys will be finding themselves next year…
