It’s official! We have moved over to www.mangoneblog.com. But fear not, for those of you who prefer this ole tumblr we will still be running it as usual for the next month. But if you’re cool and hip and want to keep ‘with it’ then give the link a click or click on the lovely picture above.
Another new local release comes from All We Are. This video was unleashed on the world after their well hyped launch at St Brides church in the city center Saturday night.
Alpha Male Tea Party chose to hold their album launch in the Caledonia pub, or more specifically a tiny little room above the pub. It did get a bit cramped towards the end of the night but the intimate atmosphere that resulted was more than worth it.
So there it is. It’s been and gone. An incredible night that lived up to and surpassed all expectations!! The GIT Awards! The line up was incredible and the diversity shown on stage in terms of genres, styles and personalities was amazing. It’s great to the city showcased in such a way…
You can’t really put the word ‘luxury’ to many things in our local music scene but tomorrows GIT Awards are as close as is gets up for us dirty lot. The event taking place at LEAF on Bold Street will see 10 of the 12 nominees perform and one of them take home the coveted GIT Award Prize! The invite only event will be displaying what a panel of musically inclined judges have picked as the cream of our Liverpool crop out of over 450 applicants!!
Miss Jaleh Negari, Mr Jeppe Brix, Sir Andreas Pallisgaard and Dr Jakon Falgren are a few pals who roll by the name Pinkunoizu! As part of the Harvest Sun promotions 2012 listings, Shipping Forecast will be playing host to to Pinkunoizu’s Liverpool leg of their tour which, for me, gets a two thumbs up.

The first thing that needs to be said is that the Shipping Forecast is usually defined by excellent sound and a rather tame audience. On this night however the vocals were a little quiet…
Harvest Sun presents alt indie poppers, Sea of Bees. Creation of musical mastermind, Julie Ann Bee, Sea of Bees give indie an easier more fun poppy edge with their simple structured songs and enjoyable vocals…
A double blessing came from the Thurlow family. Sisters, Hannah and Colette, aka the 2:54 are play Shipping Forecast tomorrow eve (13.04) down to the local promoters you all know and love, Evol. Shoegazy vibes and XXish tones fill the ear drums with a real contradictory feeling of a laid backness and an on edge feel that takes you by the torso and consumes your miiiiind!!…
Below my feet the sounds of a busy bar were muffled, a reminder that the world outside was still there. Something had to be there otherwise the sound of Silent Cities would have made the audience forget something else existed outside of this intimate venue. Simon Maddison, singer/songwriter took to the stage first, in what was going to be a demonstration in what the Liverpool folk scene had to offer…
Review: The Songbook Sessions Monthly Showcase – 24/03/12
The New Caldera| The Restless Venture | The Edwardian Picnic | The Big I Am - @ The Zanzibar – 24/03/12
(Image: The Big I Am)
This is the second Songbook Sessions night I have been to. The first being a thoroughly enjoyable experience and opened my eyes to a few of the more popular bands doing the rounds right now before they had gained their well deserved popularity (The Grande and Ratty Little Fingers being the two that spring to mind). This monthly event is a showcase for singer/songwriters, local and from further afield. Not strictly folk, but there is a certain ‘folkiness’ to the night and an undercurrent present in every one of the bands playing tonight…
Review: Muto Leo - ‘Cascades’ - Out tomorrow!! 06.04.12
First off, I only have the CD so I have no idea what all these tracks are called! All I know is Track One is called Glass! So in the situation I have been placed in I have decided to take it upon myself to rename the other tracks Track 2, Track 3 and Track 4. I’m cocky like that…
Last month, a new night opened at the Kazimier – Gold Soundz. It promised to be an alternative club night, playing classic indie, rock and pop from the 80s and 90s. It could be perceived by some as a night run by those on the scene for those in the know, but I was keen to make it down, partly to support friends but also out of curiosity and an interest in seeing something different on the musical landscape. I was early and the venue was pretty empty but it quickly got busy and as time wore on, any scenester fears dissolved. Overall, it felt like one of the most inclusive and welcoming nights of many I’ve been to at the Kazimier…
